for our community
Just across from the Quincy High School parking lot is the public entrance to a beautiful walking path known as the Leonhardt Ranch Trail.
The trail runs through private property protected and managed by Feather River Land Trust and is part of a community nature preserve called the Leonhardt Ranch Learning Landscape. Local schools use the property for outdoor education and the trail is open to the public year-round during non-school hours, including weekends.
A walk along this wide 1.3-mile out-and-back path in any season is always a delight. Few public places provide such expansive views of American Valley and its surrounding peaks. Visitors can count on seeing diverse bird life, from Red-Tailed Hawks and Northern Harriers in the winter to Sandhill Cranes and nesting Red-winged Blackbirds in the spring and summer. The lush willow thickets along the creek might reveal songbirds in chorus, or even an industrious beaver. A winter blanket of snow makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely cross-country ski.
New benches! Thanks to our supporters and volunteers.
Thanks to the efforts of dedicated local volunteers and community members, everyone who enjoys this property now has a place to sit and take in the gorgeous views. This Spring, FRLT members Karen Kleven and Clare Churchill led an effort to raise funds to install two new benches along the trail. The funds helped FRLT cover the cost of materials, staff time, and will support ongoing maintenance.
Thank you Karen & Clare for inspiring this effort, and to everyone who participated:

Benches are just the first step in our plans to improve visitor amenities at this beautiful property. We’re creating a land management plan that will outline future improvements to the trail including new and improved signs and potentially a picnic area. Financial contributions from our generous community of members makes all of our work to maintain and improve the property possible.
Thank you for helping to care for YOUR local community preserves, and for supporting all of our work to conserve and care for the Feather River region.
How you can help
